My first attempt at fragging

Well I made some frags yesterday, and I think they turned out well, I made some Pulsing Xenia frags and some kenya tree frags and 2 frags of Zoathids, after they open I will post some pictures. I have them in a small 10 gallon tank I set up for them with a hob filter, just a simple set up to get me by till I get get room to place a real frag tank.

Those magnetic frag racks are another option. They'll block up your tank a little, but you'd have everything in one water volume. When I add on, I'll usually run a MJ1200 out of an overflow into the new tank (drilled so it can drain to the main sump). Pretty easy to do, and cheaper than equipping a whole new system.

A good job!! I hope your frags will do well for you.

If you have any room to hang a frag tray in your main display tank, I suggest that you try a frag tray. You can construct a frag tray pretty easily yourself although the tray that gfat suggested may look neater.

Here's a picture of a frag tray that I made myself:

A separate/independent frag tank means an additional maintenance chore. If you really want to have a frag tank, it is wise to plumb it with the sump of your main tank like gflat suggested.

I don't have a frag tank myself. I am using two frag trays in my 120 to take care of all the frags I produce. It's usually more than enough for a sale at a regional frag swap or two (a pretty good volume at that.)

Keep us posted with your progress :).

after looking at what Tomoko has, I may move them from the 10 gal into my main tank. Anyone need any Pulsing Xenia or kenya tree ( the fastest growing and most self propogating coral known to man) ?

Here's the link for mag rack.

It's really neat looking. Bulk Reef Supply started carrying them recently, but it is still rather expensive. Mine did not cost much since I used mainly scrap acrylic sheet (for straps) and egg crate.

Thanks I just used egg crate and a suction cup to hold it to the side, and one piece of fishing line tied to the center brace to support the other end.

I also made one with egg crate and two suction cups, but I kept knocking one of the suction cups off the glass with my cleaning magnet (I should call it a magnetic stony fragger actually). Some of my frag plugs used to fall and roll under rocks making it difficult to retrieve :( . So I had to come up with a better method to keep the tray in place.

if you don't have the space for mag racks you can try what I do. Order some epoxy or plastic coated magnets and glue them to the back of your discs. Now you've got fragnets! You can cover both of your side glasses without blocking any light to your main display.
