picked this up today at lfs.. i wanna do a 40g with all zoa and mostly rics.. so i figured i would get one for my biocube14..

have not had anything not make it so far.. so i figured lets try it! its about 8 months established.

here is a picture.. it was tiny =/ buttt at least i will get a good idea on the growth rates and what not.

they had one similar, a little bigger but it was not attached to anything.. im expecting some orange and purples from this

figure i would include a tank shot.. its really thrown together just trying to get a feel for a reef tank. watching how corals grow and spread and what not.

Fwiw, rics are pretty slow growers... So don't hold your breath waiting for it to grow and split... It took about a year for my ric to split, but when it did, it made several mouths at once... I think 3 total now.

When you bought the first ric you will know that the tank will eventually covered with them. You just can't stop buying!! Get addicted like me

sooo i found out they grow fast..

when you just buy more =)

i have some palys on live rock that id like to remove... at this point im thinking just replacing the rock would be easier but im trying to get some ricodea islands going for my 75g zoa/ric tank i plan on doing soon..

lol between your thread and the other thread here on RC, I think I'm gonna start a ric garden myself! :p

just a little update since you guys posted..

i deff recommend lighting on the bluer side.. i have a 10k bulb in my biocube and it almost looks like the ric is reaching towards it when its on.. when its just my blue light, is relaxes and really opens up well.

im going to either hold off until i get a 40g.. or get a 50/50 pcr bulb to replace the 10k

Go with the ATI Blue Plus. Trust me you will not regret it. I just upgrade my stock bulb. Man it makes all my ricordea color POP!!

Highly recommend the blue plus. I'm gonna run 3x blue plus and 1x purple plus.

Pull out a razor blade and start cutting. florida rics are pretty hardy and I cut mine all the time. I had 1 that I was cutting regularly... after 6 months I had turned it into 12. I have sold enough frags of it back to the fish store I got it from that it was essentially free haha.
If it ever has 2 mouths just slice right inbetween them and move one to a new rock. they both will heal within a day or two. Otherwise just slice through the mouth. Also if you scrape it off a rock, any residue left behind will grow another ric.

It looks great! Have you looked at coralmorphlogic.com? He always has great prices and beautifully colored rics!!

ive kinda stoped buying corals because im waiting to figure out what to do..

im between a 40g or deep blue 57 rimless with all ricordea or a 4ft tank with a rics ( just for more fish options)..

now i kinda like the idea of mixing sps with them.. but unfortunetly seems difficult.. all over the place right now.

I'm guessing that probably depends on the tank phil, mine grow pretty quick.
