Hi All:
Here is my first crack at a LPS or any coral for that matter. I this aquacultured candy button coral from Drs. foster & Smith, I bought it about one month ago. It seems like its doing well. Getting ready to add a few more LPS.
The candy button coral is under LED lighting.
I hope you can see the attachment of the candy button coral.

It looks like a Duncan. This is a great coral to start with. They're not to demanding when it comes down to light & flow, and they can reproduce quite readily if conditions are right. GL.

Thanks, I looked at the candy button coral and it didn't really look like one. But being new..... I'll check the duncan coral description. The coral opened up within an hour of getting it, it seems to like where it is.
Thanks for your help.

I guess sometimes you don't get exactly what you ordered, but I'm happy with it. As long as it continues to do well. How big might it get?

My first coral was a DFS Duncan too. Had it for about a month or so and it looks like I have a head splitting already. Yours looks to be good considering it's open too for being a new one.

Definitely a duncan, and probably my favorite coral. :) I have 3 I've picked up in the past couple of months; a 5-headed green/purple like yours, a 15-head branchy one with green branches and mouths and white tentacles, and a 9 (soon to be 12) headed one that is not at all branchy and has pink flesh and mouths and metallic green tentacle tips. They love high flow, despite what LiveAquaria says. I feed them at least twice a week with mysis. You made a good pick, have fun with it!

Edit: I recently posted a thread about the different morphs and there's a pic in there of someone's purple colony if you want to check it out!

Thanks for the information on the Duncan Coral. I'm thinking about getting a few more coral soon, might try another variant of the Duncan since this one looks happy in my DT.

I live about 2 hours north of the Divers Den in Rhinelander WI, I'd rather ship the corals but this time of year I'm worried about the cold weather. I don't see much of a warming trend here until April, the high today is 19 degrees, I'm thinking of taking a ride soon to pick up two or three new corals.

Anyone have thoughts on winter time shipping?

You can call them up and ask them about cold weather shipping. I've received corals from Diver's Den (I live in LA) and there is a heating pack attached on the inside of the box.

One of the nice things about LA/DD is that they do guarantee for two weeks. Perhaps try to time your purchase with a favorable weather report?

Thanks, never really thought about the 2 week guarantee. I'm sure they ship during the winter months, I think I'll give DD a call and see what they have to say.

California sounds great here today, we have 2 + feet of snow on the ground here and cold! It sure is nice looking at my little piece of the warm ocean here.
Be Safe....
