Check this out!

Several months ago I found this cute little rock that would fit in my palm. it was covered in brilliant red sponge, tons of feather dusters, tube worms, barnacles, and just overall a very lively little rock.

Here is a picture of it.

HOWEVER, today while I was using a turkey baster to blow detritus off a new rock I noticed something incredibly remarkable...

THE ROCK CLOSED!

Um, needless to say...for the past three months I've been under the impression it was simply a rock when *drum roll* it was actually a clam!

There were no indications of an opening of any sort, possibly greatly in disguise behind all the cool things atop it. The LSF charged me $10 for this "feather duster rock," which at the time I was kind of mad at myself for spending on a stupid, tiny rock. I could get some nice ample sized live rock for half of that amount. Overall, it was appealing and won me over. Now I'm thinking I got a better deal than the store would ever know haha.

Now I'm wondering if I should move him down on the sandbed, or what? He is lying on his side, and has been for the past several months. Should I set him upright like other clams?

Oh, boy.

Only in my tank, hahah!

Awesome! ;-) This is why I am looking forward to start my new tank and order a box of live rock!

I am willing to bet my corals that it's a strict filter feeder, might want to dose some phyto as food!

It's actually a scallop, and I now have 2. The first one has been in my tank around a year. No extra feeding, but I feed the whole tank roti rich once a week for the filter feeders.
