I got a Picotope around Thanksgiving, and it was an Xmas gift from a client. My first invertebrate was a Halloween hermit crab. After an intense contest on my Facebook profile, he was named Michael Meyers.
About 2 weeks after getting him, I didn't see him moving much, and he stayed on the same rock all the time. Then, on New Year's Day, I woke up to no heat in my apartment. The temperature had dipped to 63 degrees in my apartment, and I immediately ran to the tank when I got up.
In the corner, was what looked like a corpse in the corner. I plucked it out with tweezers (I waited several hours to make sure he was dead), and buried him in the backyard with a nice memorial.
I left his shell in the tank as a tribute and future home. It was in different places occasionally, but I just attributed it to the water pump. Until 5 days later, when a leg peeped out. He was alive!
I had no idea that they molted! All of my Facebook friends are now joking about Michael Meyers.
He's a great pet and my new best friend.
