Hi Guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone knows why my Hawaiian Palys look like they do? Their mouths are wide open and some look terrible. They just let some wast out of their mouth yesterday but they have looked this way for about 5 days now.

My water is is perfect and everything else in my tank is fine. Anyone know? Are they hungry? Dying? I use phytoplankton everyday. Help me please!!!

Open mouth is not necessarily a sign of stress, and perhaps not aways a tragic one!!

I would assume that your lights are good and not only blue, like in the picture.
I also would assume that if the chemistry is real good as you've said and all the other zoanthids are fine...

They can do that once in a while without major problems.
They aren't dying!! They're not hungry either!! LOL!!!

Phytoplankton every day is unnecessary.
Feed them once a week. If you really want to give them more food, twice a week would be ok, but I wouldn't feed every day.
That's a big mistake people do is to push too much food on them (any zoa!!).

Let them rest and they'll be fine.
They are probably trying to metabolize.
Let them get back to their normal rate, please.
Not to worry!!

Thank you Grandis!!!

Yes the blue lights were only on cause of the time of day I took the pic :) I use day lights as well.

I'll cut back on the Phyto, do a minor water change and I guess cross my fingers.

No problem.
I see my polyps doing that sometimes.
Ya know how I love to feed them too!! :D
If you stop feeding, it will release digested food particles and come back to normal soon.
If you just did a water change you don't have to do it again, just keep your regular schedule.

You've got nice fat Hawaiian PEs there!!
