I was given a nice hermit crab by a friend. I like him and thought he had a lot of character. At night, when I would peek at my tank with a flash light (my moon lights did not come yet), my hermit crab would come right toward the lights.
I did a little research and put a number of shells in the tank so that he would leave my turbo alone. I noticed that for several days, my hermit would stay close to my lone turbo. Once I saw the turbo on his back and the hermit close by. I picked up the turbo and put him a distance away. He seemed fine.
However, fate got to my turbo, when I saw snail guts in the tank and my hermit crab wearing a new shell. I really think, he likes anything he can not have.
So off to the fish store (after my mourning period). I really liked that turbo. So I exchanged my hermit for another turbo.
I also saw today, my Nassarious snail arise from no where. He took a little stroll (during my morning feeding). I then saw him dig his way back into the sand and disappear. Very cool.
So I think that my appreciation for snails is growing. They also have their own character.
My plan is to not populate the tank with many snails, so that they don't starve.
I like them, and they add a nice touch to the tank.
