I posted a thread in the nano section before finding the marine plant section, so I apologize for anyone seeing this twice....
I have been in the hobby for quite a while and I've done all kinds of tanks, but one thing I've always wanted to do was a rimless tank with mangroves. When I worked part time at my LFS I set up a 20L that was tied to one of our coral systems, and turned it into a mangrove fuge.
It was one of my favorite tanks and I would rotate livestock in and out for my own (and my customers) enjoyment. Now I finally have my own little mangrove environment at home and I love it.
Livestock:
-Pair of percula clowns...one Picasso one wild-caught
-The smallest Randall's goby I have ever seen paired with a tiger pistol shrimp
-A hybrid ORA cleaner goby
-An annoying Damsel that everyone thinks is pretty (mainly my girlfriend)
-Several Montipora frags (digis and caps)
-A couple small LPS, zoas, and mushrooms
Equipment:
-IM 30 Gallon
-147w LED fixture
-Hydor Koralia
Dosing:
-Manual dosing of Calc, Alk, and Mag
Maintenance:
I do 10 gallon water changes every week (Reef crystals) and don't have any filtration except for some filter pads that get changed weekly
My mangroves are mounted to ridged airline tubing that has been stuck into holes that I drilled into a PVC frame...I will post some more pictures of this if anyone is interested. I believe this should allow for good aerial root growth.
Check out the pics below and let me know what you think! Also, this is only my second time dealing with mangroves so any advice is greatly appreciated!
