My mushroom just turned into a ball?

So I was feeding my fish today with some Hikari small sized pellets. A couple of them got passed them and drifted down. one of them landed right on my mushroom coral and to my surprise it began to kind of bend, furling it's edged upwards and continued to do so until it looked less like a mushroom and more like a basketball. Is this how they feed, or could this be caused by something else. Mysis shrimp have landed on it before and they've never elicited any sort of response.

Yeah, it scared me at first but now it's unraveled and bigger than ever.
Thanks alot for the info.

Kinda wierd -- but yeah, he goggled it up.
Good nutrient source.

My umbrella mushroom seems to only feed when it wants, which is not predictable at all, but when it does it is extremely cool to see!
