My Neat Nano Reef

Update as of last week:

I am currently undergoing a small brown cyanobacteria attack. I plan on doing more frequent WCs and less lighting. I'm sure it was caused by the move which may have created a little cycle or just stirred up some gunk in my sand bed. I was somewhat lax on maintenance over break.

I did add a bunch of new corals. I have some ricordeas, zoanthids, etc.

I now have a clownfish, jawfish, skunk cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, snails, hermits, BUDDHA, and plenty of corals. Now I am just going to let it grow out and hopefully beat this stupid algae attack! This is my first one since I set it up over summer.

I plan on eventually getting some nice quality picture, but until then I hope you don't mine my iPhone!

Cheers!

I ended up taking all the substrate out which caused a ton of gunk to get everywhere! I have increased WCs to 2x per week. It's hard to stack the rock without the substrate, but that is not my main worry now.

Some coral is reacting negatively to the increase nitrates, but in a few weeks this should all clear up.

More to come.

How is your jawfish doing without substrate? And don't stress overly about the algae (probably cyano or diatoms). Almost every tank goes through this. It will subside when your nutrients get under control, and even the worst outbreaks usually run themselves out in time. I know it sucks, but yours looks pretty mild so far.

The jawfish seems to be doing fine without substrate. There's still a lot of rubble for him to hide in. He really doesn't seem to care to be honest. I will be watching his behavior though and may trade him if he reacts negatively. The last thing I want to do is intentionally hurt the fish.

The algae got pretty bad (you can't tell by the picture), but it is currently subsiding. I will likely do a WC today, restructure the rock (yet again) and finally allow things to get back to the way they used to be without me constantly moving things around. I have too much coral to be doing that now. Haha.

In the future I plan on getting a list of everything I have in the aquarium so people will actually be able to know what is in there even if they can't see it.
