Yeah we alllll go thru this hardship no matter how much proactively we take care of our tanks and how much money we put in...BUT it's a beautifullll hobby and hence keep us all going. Isn't it?
I qt my fish for six to eight weeks, corals not really. Now I'm gonna do a couple months on do a going forward. Not really sure if there's a point to qt lps
Anything that goes into your display tank should be quarantined. LPS may not have pests that affect themselves directly, but the bases that support them can certainly carry eggs of pests of other corals. Live rock can bring in fire worms, destructive crabs or mantis shrimp. Tridacna can bring in parasitic snails. Even snails or conchs can have hydroids or bryozoans on their shells.
I can't believe the amount of time, money and effort people throw away and all the rare life forms they destroy by not quarantining properly. You guys must be made of money.
