My new blue Hoek is green on the inside

I bought a small maricultured blue Hoek stag from my LFS.

It looked good with polyp extention but I noticed a little stn near the base and the exposed skeleton was a deep green. All other SPS are fine. The next week I noticed that the STN had spread and all the exposed skeleton was also green.

I cut it up today to save a piece, only to find that ALL of the skeleton is green, yet it still has a blue outer skin with polyp extension

I'm thinking its 'boring algae' that had already spread through the skeleton before I bought it. The LFS I bought it from always has STN on 50% of their SPS.

Has anyone else found their SPS skeleton to be be green through out after cutting it up?

Yes, some corals I have STN'd and had greenish skeleton. I don't think it is the cause of the coral's decline.

The skeleton in live SPS is supposed to be white though right?

When I frag other SPS, the white exposed skeleton heals over before green algae sets in. I'm wondering what could have made the Hoek's immune system fail, allowing the green algae to spread through it. I've taken four little frags from the tip with full polyp extension and their still alive today, though I did notice they were also green inside.

I find it strange how an SPS can still be alive with algae spread through out it's skeleton.

A green skeleton is a sign of high phosphates during calcification. If it is a maricultured piece, chances are it was grown in a shallow pocket next to a sewer drain.
