Lost my last one in the sale of my house. It's been a while since I've had one with a built in overflow. This one is making a lot of air noise. Any ideas as to what I can do to fix it?
can you turn down the flow? I used to have a noisy one and I switched from hard pvc to braided hose. that made it quieter. it was still a little noisy so I took out the durso standpipe and switched it to a herbie - dead silent!
That's not good either. can you easily switch the hard pvc for braided hose? you can also pull the durso and use a shorter standpipe like a herbie. you would need a gate valve on the drain, however. it wouldn't be a true herbie since you don't have an emergency drain, but it would be silent.
Yeah, maybe a different size hole. Flow rate change might help. Or, convert to a different drain style. You may be able to utilize a herbie style without much trouble. Herbie and bean are SILENT.
A trick I learned is to drill some holes in the side of the cap while it is on the pipe. By rotating the cap, you can line up different amount of holes to control the amount of air.
I had the same problem with my DIY over flow. I drilled a hole and still had that noise so I cut about a foot maybe more of airline tube and fed that through the hole and secured it with duct tape. Problem solved.
