My overflow is "gurgling". Any ideas?

I just upgraded to a 1200gph dual overflow. It is making a gurgling noise, and I can see (for lack of a better way to describe what I see) the water level in the overflow drain compartment "bouncing up and down in the tubes". Anyone know how I can solve this? I am using that "flexline" tubing that comes with most overflows... If I use PVC instead, will this solve? ANy help is appreciated. :)

you are getting too much water and not enough air to the sump below so the water goes down to fast and then slows down and then too fast etc....

in my durso setup - i just had to put a cap with a bigger hold to let more air in.

i simply threw a 90 degree angle adapter inside of the overflow box, stopped my unit from gurgling.

OK... it sounds like gooliver and papagims ur solutions are pretty similar... put something on the drain to allow more air. I will try the 90 deg cap since I have a few of those lying around. Any other suggestions?

Thanks guys! I can always count on my RC homies! :P

I would get a "U" shape connetor and then drill a small hole in the top/middle of the "U".

The top part of the U should be out of the water so adjest the stand pipe accordingly.

Just checked that Durso website... too many parts needed.

I just cut my stand pipe so that it is pretty high up and there is not a huge drop for the tank level into the over flow. Put on the "U" (home depot sells some that are black, they are next to the white plumbing stuff). You don't even need to glue the U onto the standpipe...

Good luck

Yah.... I thought that durso stand pipe was a lot of work too. I have a few of those elbows stocked... I will try it tonight! Thx everyone!

I would go with the Durso...it's really easy to make and it works great. Just remember to start with a small hole first.
