Hey RC. I had a problem with my 4 1/2 inch harelquin tusk-- he was opening is mouth WIDE. He's survived getting a ghost shrimp leg stuck in his mouth. Since then, he has decided to stay in corners and breathes heavy. No one picks on him, I do regular partial water changes, and my parameters are perfect. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate and intrudes, low phosphates, pH at 8.2. 78-80 degrees. Only a 75 gallon, but I only have my harelquin, a baby emperor angel and my bird wrasse is 4 inches. We're getting a 180 gallon soon.
I was worried, so I put him in my QT for the last 3 days with ghost shrimp and lights off. He moves from corner to corner, still breathing heavy- not eating. When I put him in the QT, I noticed a white spot on his eye that wasn't there before I put him in the QT. I did some research and I think it's trauma from netting him for the transfer. No other white "spots" on him.
The wrasse bullied him upon initial introduction to the display tank. I removed the wrasse and gave him a "time out" in one of my smaller tanks until I could move the rocks around. Harley was doing fine without the wrasse in there. After I rearranged my rocks, I re-introduced the wrasse and he was a new guy! Didn't care at all that the harelquin was in the tank! Just a few days later, harelquin started acting up-- hiding, breathing heavy, no eating. We watch them instead of tv. No one was picking on him. I just don't get it. Any ideas of what could be going on with him??? He's perfect and beautiful. We don't want to lose him!!
