My radical idea. 2 Tanks in 1... using a divider

I have a 60x30x30
i also have an acryilic divider thats a pefect fit and has overflow teeth at the top and bottom.... and has holes punched all over the divider so flow will be no problem.

I want to do one half as a mixed reef with a wall piled high up the back of the tank... a real mountain of a reef with all the live rock in that one side and lots of reef safe nice friendly fish.

On the other side i want to ron FOWOLR which is Fish Only Without Live Rock... as the tank has tons of live rock on one side and in the sump also i feel i can just have a nice sand bottom and a few rocks for effect... and have some predators that i fear would eat the happy guys on the other side of the divider...

Any thoughts?
I also have a 72 inch tank with a similar divider.

I forgot to add i plan to hand a single MH 250w over one side of the tank for the reef but would have much less light on the other side for the Predators.

That would be really cool to see...although the reef fishes may have a heart attack when they come face to face with the predator! :eek1: hehe...

Only constructive thought I can think of though, is the HIGH bioload issue. You may end up needing a fairly powerful if not two medium skimmers running. Especially since you will most likely be feeding the predators meaty foods and of course the large pooh that will come with the larger fish. Also, you may need seperate closed loop for strong circulation in each side, possibly adjustable for each side. Just a thought...

I've seen it done and it's a great room divider. The only thing with yours is that I feel it will be to shallow with a 30" tank cut in half.

I would be cutting the tank in half down the middle so its predators on the right and reef on the left.

Could i not just use 2 overflows and feed all that overflow into one big skimmer?

you may not need two overflows, I was just saying that you would probably need either one fairly large skimmer or a couple smaller ones to keep up with the bio load; not that you needed one off each side.

I think its a woderful idea... but i am going to leave it for now... this is my first tank and already i am showing my inexperience and eagerness .... patience young jedi :strooper:
