My reef farted

I have a extension on my supply lone with a ball valve that was turned off, we'll today I plumbed in a spout on that extension for a remote tank and turned the valve on. I guess the water in that line was relatively stagnant as it filled up with what I suspect is nitrogen gas, either way my whole house now smells like a Johnny on the spot for about two hours now... I haven't done a nitrate test yet! Windows are open vac does are lit... Still stinks:frog:

The water will be fine once it hits oxygen but don't use it with animals until it is good and aerated. Nitrates are not an issue, assuming it smells like suffer. Intact it is the bacteria that consumes nitrates that give off that smell.

Agreed, bit it's still nasty, and the wife is displeased.

If you have a skimmer, skim wet for a bit and it will remove it. Charcoal would help as well. Yep: need to be careful with stagnant water: I did the same thing when I took my 60g surge tanks off line for a week and then finally got them fired back up. Eye watering. Of course we had family in town at the time. ?
