Hi guys, i bought this really pretty sebea for my 29g BC, now im not new or anything and i have a 150w sunpod and a tunze skimmer. Everything is going great, but my anem is not attaching to anything. Im very worried because i DONT want him to die in my tank and screw stuff up and hes just plain cool. Hes a bright white ( guessing hes bleached) with blue tips. I fed im some silversides and he hasn't taken it yet. IS there something i can do to help him? any help is much appreciated, thanks
If its more than a week, Things do not sound good 3fins. I would try some other food to get it to eat. If it is going to recover it will need to eat alot. I would try building a ring of lr rubble and placing the nem in the center or something, and keep the flow directed away. Check you water now is a time to keep it pefect as possible. You have to get it eating.
I have been in this situation, with a non bleached sebae and it did not end well. I hope your luck is better.
With it being bleached -- and it is if it is white -- it might be too far gone to be saved. All you can do it make sure that your water parameters stay on. You might want to cut back your photo period while it adjusts.
Another problem that I see if it it does recover is that a 29 Bio-cube is going to be too small for a Sebea. Years ago I had one that was at least 18" across before I lost it to a power outage. It will tax your filters too much to remain healthy.
Yea, they get HUGE, and it was still getting bigger when I lost it.
But, for now, all you can do it try to provide it with the best conditions possible. Bleached anemones can be brought back to full health, but it takes time.
well, hasn't died yet. But it looks the same as before, maybe a little better... I gave him a small piece of a silver side and i think he ate it. ( it wasn't there when i came back so im not sure).
Thanks
hey guys, she is still alive. Its still mainly white and hasnt attached still..i dont no what the deal is. BUT it looks as if some parts are turing brown??? is this bad??? thanks..
3fins
Turning brown would be a good thing as it would be regaining it's zooanthele that was lost when it was bleached. When they're are healthy they range from a tan to a dark gray purple color...
You don't want to feed the anemone when it is not doing good.. I wouldn't feed it until it is good and settled in.. It has to expend alot of energy to eat also so if its stressed and not ataching its foot then let it be until it does. I have had multiple sebea anemones and they all started off being bleached some did fine right off the bat and some crawled into the live rock and didn't come out for weeks.... Did you check the foot before putting it in the tank? Alot of times, if the foot is damaged they will not attach. Also i agree with the post above about size..... I have never had one that didn't get over a foot round and you will eventually have to upgrade tanks... Got any Pics?
I also bought a Sebae for my 29 gallon biocube. I am not in the process of upgrading to a 75 gallon just for my nem. He went from a bleached fist size to a good 12" now. He colored up nicely.
It took a good month for him to attach. The first couple weeks he kept tumbling upside down. Finally I took him off the sand bed and put him up in the rocks where he wouldn't let himself float way. He attached then and has only shifted as he grew.
I didn't want a Sebae. All anemones in the stores around here looked the same to me. They didn't look anything like what you see on here or online. So I asked for a BTA because I have two false perculas. They sold me the Sebae. I found out a couple days later that I had the wrong one. I did know they were difficult and could grow large which was why I didn't want one.
Wouldn't trade him for the world now. Taken me 6+ months to save for a new tank. I must be crazy.
