Never heard of a cryptic zone, can you give me some info on it and what it does?

Thats a rough question.

Are they hard? Your question is way too general. Short answer: some no, and long answer yes. They are not difficult if you know what you are doing. Some can be real tough, some are easy. As a rule of thumb just chalk them up as more difficult and stay away from them untill you have a mature tank with good filtration (over skimming) and strong lighting (mainly halides). But like everything in this hobby there are exceptions. Yes I did have a great mixed reef tank wth birds nests, montipora, montipora digi, and some others. It was in a 1og skimmerless nano with 96w of power compact. I did do 50% water changes weekly, I dosed calc and alk every day. Basically I knew what i was doing so it worked. I put the time in for a great reward so for me it was worth it. But if you want to know specifically if they are for you, sounds like no for now. Do a little research, start to narrow down your q's, and in timeyoull be askin the right q's. Post some info on your tank specs, thatll help too.

i have a 29 gallon...salinity is good...in the middle of the lines on the salt thing (i forgot the name) its 78.5 degrees in the tank and i have halide lighting...i was thinking either a ruffled ridge or a birds nest.....everyone i know said i cant do it cause they are too hard and a waste of money...but i just love the way they look

Tank looks great! I cant waite till all my sticks turn into little colonies like yours!

Roger-to answer your questions, Yes sps are more difficult to take care of than softies and lps. They require very good water conditions and are not that forgiving to mistakes or slight spikes in ammonia, nitrate or nitrite. You have halides so your off to a good start. It does sound like your very new to this hoby though with "on the salt thing". I would sugest reading ALOT before getting into SPS.
What halide do you have?
Do you check your ammonia, nitrates & nitrites?
Do you check alk, calc, and mag? Do you dose anything for these?
Do you have a skimmer?
What kind of power heads or water circulation do you have?
