The corals really have a nice color but does the tank look that dark or is it just the pic?
It is just the pic, I can't adjust the aperture on my camera, just the shutter speed. Never buy a Samsung...

Just stumbled across this old thread - having the same problem with pale colors, running 4x54w T5 on a newer setup.

To be fair, much of my problem stems for poor acclimation - I went from a Biocube with 48w PC's to my current fixture. The green caps still seem to be the most affected currently - great growth but VERY pale!

Dropped the photoperiod significantly for a couple of weeks without any change - I think I'm going to disconnect some of the T5's and see what happens.

I knew that T5's were equivalent to MH's, but didn't realize they were potentiall too much. I ran 2x250w MH's on an old tank and probably aren't giving the T5's enough credit as they haven't singed the hair on my arm yet :D

Currently 2 x 10k and 2 x 460 actinics.

Should I run one of each or both actinics and one 10k?

Hmm...

Any one else that posted before have any updates?

Stick with the good brand lamps, ATI, Aquascience, Giesemann, UV Lighting. Using one of the lamps with more red output seems to help with pink and purple colors (UVL Actinic White, 75/25 or Aquasun, KZ Fiji Purple or ATI Pro Color)

HI....surprised this thread poped back up. It has been a few years since I have had this tank and I now run 400w MH.

In retrospec I believe my problem was too much light and not enough nutrients or food.

The one thing different about T5s compared to LED and Metal Halide is that they kick out a lot of IR light. It's not UV or PAR, you can measure those easily enough and T5s rarely belt out as much as a halide, but IR is high, and this does indeed seem to cause trouble with corals where there are large amounts of T5 lighting.
