My tank at feeding time

And yes, the bottom front of the glass is dirty, I need to give it a cleaning.

I originally just took this to send to my brother but I figured I'd share it with RC as well.

Next time I take a video I'll clean the tank first ;)

Nice fish selection:thumbsup:

I also have a question did you buy those butterflies as a pair or seperate. I was thinking of adding a pair to my 180 but cant find any pairs available. Also what do you feed your fish?

Sory for the questions but most of your fish is what I have or plan to have:D

Thanks!

I bought them seperate but at the same time from LiveAquaria. I originally put them both into the same quarantine tank but they fought, mild fighting but I figured QT is supposed to be stress free so I seperated them.

Then after a month of QT for them, I got another couple fish that I wanted to QT. Rather than have to start the quarantine period over for the B/F by introducing "dirty" fish to their quarantine tanks, I combined the two B/F again and they fought a little but nothing much. After a couple hours they were swimming side by side, so I just let them be.

Anyway, I ended up having them in QT for 2 months total, one month of that spent together. At the end of it, they seem to be pretty inseperable. You almost never see one more than 10 inches from the other. Which is cool, maybe I lucked out and got a female/male that paired up, or else I've got two males or two females and right now they just like hanging out.

From what I've read, Semilarvatus are pretty friendly towards conspecifics, so I dont think I'll have a problem regardless of what sex they are, I might just not end up with a true pair.

Very nice. Love the semilarvatus.
Thanks, it's amazing how cool they are. Great fish, very friendly too, or else always hungry, however you want to look at it. They definitely arent scared of me, but they spent 2 months in QT staring at me without really any room to get away except into some PVC and eventually they stopped being scared.

Now as soon as I walk around they follow me all around.

Depends on the individual from what I hear... I dont have corals so I cant give first hand knowledge about it.

From what I've read, it's pretty hit and miss with Semilarvatus being reef safe. They eat a lot of algae all day long off the clip, I think if you kept them full you'd probably be OK with one in your reef. But if you let them get hungry, watch out corals!

I know to get them eating I had to feed mysis and small bits of marine flesh, once they got started on that then they started eating green stuff.

Cool deal. Semilarvatus are definately my favorite butterflies. That goatfish is pretty cool too - I kept a bicolor once.

Yeah, goatfish are one of those overlooked species that most people dont have, but they are a good little sand stirrer.

I also have a Orange spot goby but he made his home behind the rocks so I never see him unless I look in from the side.

Great tank!!! Do you run really low salinity? LR looks void of any growth? Nice to see you get small fish to watch them grow. Continued success. Only recommendation is load that tank with algae sheets soaked in garlic and selcon to get that Naso fattened up. Regards, Tim

Yeah, I hear you there. The naso is my newest purchase, I didnt quarantine him a long time because he just wasnt eating well in QT, so I went ahead and put him into the main display 2 nights ago.

I feed 4 algae sheets per day, I put in two in the morning and two in the evening. I soak them all in Selcon.

I have yet to see the Naso eat from the clips, all the other tangs and the butterflies love it though, so does the Emperor.

I'm getting a little worried about him tbh, hes pretty skinny and when I got him he wasnt any bigger. I've tried mysis, brine, formula 1, formula 2, nori, emerald entree, you name it I've tried it. Got any other suggestions?

Oh, and I also make my own mix of shrimp, squid, scallops and fish flesh together with spectrum pellets, all ground up and then frozen. He wont touch that either.

Thanks! Well hopefully he starts feeding, it will be hard to get fat without food :)

I'm also thinking I got sold a female Naso and not a male. It is about 5 or 6 inches and doesnt have streamers at all yet.

Let us know when the naso comes around. I think just about everyone I've seen eats like a pig. How long have you had the it?

Sometimes they won't eat when you first get them, though. I had one that initially would only eat live brine shrimp. After that it settled down and ate from the clip, but it was a battle.

Yeah, I really dont want to have to feed live brine, but if he doesnt get eating in another day or two, I'll try it.

I contacted ReefHotSpot where I got it from and they said it was eating mysis just fine for them.
