For the past few months I've been planning a 40 gallon breeder display with a 40 gallon breeder sump. Well, I've finally started on it! I really like the dimensions of the 40 gallon breeders and I wanted a lot of water volume, so I just decided to get two 40 gallon tanks. Specs are as follows:

Tank
40 Gallon breeder: 36” x 18” x 16”

Sump
40 Gallon breeder: 36” x 18” x 16”

Lighting
Sunlight Tek Light T5 Hood from ol'saltybastage

Plumbing
2 x ¾” return
2 x 1” drain
overflow box

Equipment
Eheim 1260
Deltec ap600
Ebo-Jager 100 watt Heater

Live Stuff
CaribSea Special Grade Sand
Live rock:
Bali ~45 lbs

Fish
Bicolor Blenny
Flasher wrasse
neon goby
clown goby
Potters angel (IF I can find a healthy one that eats)
maybe a pair of clowns or some orange lined cardinals

I'm going to try and stick to a stocking list with this tank and then let stuff grow out. The SPS frag pack I got from Typhon and the Ultimate frags order was the start of it, I will order more once I actually have the tanks cycled. When I was at MS this weekend I got my first fish inhabitant, some sort of flasher wrasse. Now for some pics!

Very first full tank shot :D

Returns (going to see how those flare nozzles work, I might do something different)

Here's my proposed sump design...I'm going to tweak it a bit:

Both tanks came from MS...they ordered them for me. I was supposed to get both of them at once but someone put salt in one of the tanks and so during shipping the side of one of them blew out. I got the first tank and then a week later the second.

Nice drill job and caulk job on that tank.:smokin:

I think that is a carpenters flasser. Good looking fish

No kidding about the drilling and caulking...you must be good with caulk ;) Background looks good too! The wrasse isn't taking any crap from the cherub anynmore either and ate flake and mysis tonight.

You all ought to have seen her when I firied up the drill I thought she was going to puke.

I'm sure that they don't blame me for being scared of dumb and dumber drilling my tank :p

hey now

 That was good!

That is what I was wounding if you drilled the tank or bought it that way. Now I know.. Nice work guys

You like the black background? My new tank will have a black background because the overflow cover will be black and I want it to match.. I have a back piece for the 90 that is blue on one side and black on the other.. The only thing I don't like about the black is it shows all the algae/glass scum.

Those two guys and powertools just do not mix...

I love black backgrounds. The stuff that's on my display (and also on my sump...whatever was left over from the display) is vinyl...the stuff they use for pinstriping on cars and stuff. If you keep the back of your tank clean you won't have to worry about algae/glass scum ;) I'm actually hoping to have some monti caps growing on the back glass, so I figure it'd be a good contrast.

Isn't Hobbes always supposed to be there to supervise that sort of thing? ;)

Speaking of Hobbes, he hasn't been online in a couple weeks. Anyone talk to him?

Yep, carpenter's...had one and loved it. He would flash those fins and turbo swim across the front of the tank from time to time. Went carpet surfing on me though. :(

Overflow

Chelsea-
Where did you get that overflow? If you built it where did you get the pieces? I would like to do the same thing with my 30 gallon cube if you don't mind a copy cat.

Thx-

Hobbes was in Georgia for a while I believe. Leighton I'm hoping it will be a pretty solid unit, though I don't have all of the fancy stand design pictures and stuff ;) Shooter, do you have any pics of your wrasse? Andy, Fade 32 gave me that overflow box. I know that Marine Solutions uses them on their tanks, maybe they've got some for sale.
