My zoas are closing...please help

Most of my corals are zoas and they are multiplying. I have been adding Lugol's solution according to the instructions. Lately I noticed some colonies start closing up. I wonder if I need to add more iodine and/or other additives. My calcium and alkalinity are good as well.

Iodine is something that I rarely add and I really haven't seen a benefit from doing so. I would stop adding that for now.

Lugos iodine is really bad. One time I dosed it and all my xenia died. Also the zoa was closed. I did a lot water change and my zoa is doing ok now. I'll never use the Lugos Iodine again.

Iodine can be LETHAL. You should not use idodine, or anything other supplement for that matter, unless you are testing for that ion before and after dosages.

I don't dose anything and a zoa colony I saved from a LFS is opening up and looking wonderful! I do weekly water changes in my tank and so far that is all that is needed to keep them gaining their health back.

I dose Phyto/Zooplankton probably once a week.

Changing water will add the essential chemicals to the tank. I have a lot of soft corals, unless I change a lot of water often, otherwise, I will have to add extra additive.

Just make sure your water parameters are good and try moving them closer or further away from the lighting.. Had a similar problem about 6 months ago, now they are all doing great!
