A year or so ago, I bought a sump/refugium on sale because it wasn't complete (parts had been taken out). It is about 20 gallons capacity and of that there is a 3 gallon refugium.
One part I never used was the skimmer that was integrated into the refugium because I wanted to do other things in there (mangroves specifically).
I have finally relocated the mangroves and wonder about actually using the skimmer.
My question is, what and how do I hook something up to get it to work? I have tried a Maxijet 1200 and it seems way to much. I don't know where to go for more information and am once again leaning on the collective wisdom (and kindness) of the club members.
Hopefully I have included a crude (ASCII) rendition below

Hopefully you can make sense of this, I'm not sure how to make it look right.
This item came with a 20 gallon sump/refugium that had been taken out of the box
The main tube is 2 -3/4" diameter 14" tall
8" up from the bottom is a 1/2" tube fused through the large cylinder off center.
when in operation, the water level is about 3 1/2 iches above this tube.
On top of the cylinder is a short 2" diameter cylinder.
The collection cup, with its 1" inner cylinder, slips inside this short 2" diameter cylinder.
