ok ive been looking for pictures of a different variation of a mystery wrasse and cant find anything even the females look just like the males. that being said my lfs has a fish labeled "mystery wrasse" and its body is shaped just like the normal mystery, has bigger eyes then the other wrasses- only catch is it has no color at all almost totally white-
i thought it would color up after a week or so but when i visited them the next week or two later its exactly the same-- he/she swims around the lfs tank like nothing is wrong and they have had it for a few weeks now-- ive looked at a thousand different wrasse pictures in the last week and cant find much that looks like it-- the reason im really curious is because its for sale for 30 bucks and if it is just juvinile or something thats a pretty good deal- hes about 2 inches i believe

anyone have any links or anything ill try em out thanks matt

Mystery is merely a common name and this is probably not what you expect is a Mystery Wrasse, Pseudocheilinus ocellatus. Numerous fish especially within the same genus have a similar appearance, whether it is body shape, color or both.

Then again it may just be a misfit without coloration. Many aquarium bred fish (mainly clown species) end up with less than natural markings or color, but an occasional wild caught fish will have this abnormality as well.

Sorry, won't let me delete the dbl post "do not have permission to access this page"???

Mystery Wrasse as in "We have no idea what kind of Wrasse this is" :)

That's what I'm thinking...they don't mean the name "Mystery" they mean "we have no clue please take it off our hands"...and if someone thinks they mean the name they don't mind.
