Got a chance to pick up a 1 1/2 inch mystery wrasse. How fast do they grow, when fed once a day on pellets and PE Mysis Shrimp? Hoping getting it this small will leave red tip hermit crabs alone and learn to live with them.

Yes, there is that tendency. Pretty but . . .
I was lucky mine was about 1.5" and grew to 4.5" I had him for 2 1/2 years It took about a year for him to grow to that size and he was a big softy didn't touch my shrimps or crabs and would hide from anything i added to the tank. I added 4 new fish to the tank that had been in my friends tank for over a year and one was a 2" nakoe wrasse that would pick on him and i think the stress killed him as two weeks later he was dead.

+1 for fast growers, ours went from inch and a half to 4 inches very quickly as well. So far it has remained a model citizen, we shall see.

Talk to my lfs owner today when I went to CO. to pick up new fish and corals. I ask him about the mystery wrasse nature from getting them small to growing up with red tip hermits. He said that most of the customers he has sold mystery wrasse too has said they are usually aggressive when matured out and suggested I stay away from them if i want to keep my hermits. What a bummer!!
They are very fast growers, mine put on over an inch in less then a year. He is a bit on the aggressive side. I got a sweet deal on a fairy wrasse and he killed it within minutes of it being in the tank. I didn't even have a chance to get the net.... He hasn't bothered my cleaner shrimp, but I did put in 2 peppermints earlier today and haven't seen them for a while. I hope he didn't have an expensive lunch...
