Nano Cube Issues

Good morning all,

I was curious if anyone has had experience with Nano cubes? I currently have had a 12 gallon for about 4 months now and everything is great. The levels are always perfect and have never had any problems. However, as of late I have been getting a bit more brown/black algae on my rocks and sand. It is easy to remove, but shouldn't be there. The tank isn't heavily stocked...one fish and a few corals and some rock. I am thinking that there isn't enough flow throughout the tank because my levels are right on and I am always dedicated to weekly water changes. Has anyone ever purchased a pump upgrade for a Nano cube, or just placed an additional power head in the mix. If so, any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

You can definitely add another powerhead, something small like one of the maxijets (or maybe even a koralia 1, but I dont know how much those really push). But can you get a picture of the algae? Sounds like something that's just part of the initial tank cycle, even if it seems a bit delayed.

No doubt that my taknk cold be having a delayed cycle. I did a bit of research, and the pump that currently came with the tank is only 106gph. No matter the outcome, I will definetly upgrade that. Right now, I have my lights on for 6 hours a day. It is in a room that doesn't get a lot of sunlight either.

I have a 12 gallon nano cube. I just straight up replaced the stock little pump with a maxijet 1200. It fits right in there. No flow problems after that! You could probably do ok with a 900 as well.

I will look into the maxijet. Thanks for the suggestions. I remember reading somewhere that the first thing to do when buying a nano is to replace the pump. I got no beefs about the tank. It is so easy to keep up with. But the pump...different story.
