Nano Explosion

Well for those of you who addressed my water quality questions a while back, I thank you... I got everything looking really good and the conditions perfect.... HOWEVER! I went on vacation this past week and got a call from my sister who was watching the tank saying that it had a crack down the side from top to bottom! I lost everything except my clown who was kept in a bucket until we could get back...we only had a few leathers and mushrooms but still... I asked around to see if the shops had heard of this and they said that there was a bad batch about a year ago which is when we bought our tank.... Our wood floors are ok considering 24 g of saltwater got poured onto them... I just want everybody to know if you have a JBJ Nano to maybe look into this...I don't know who to contact so if anybody has any info please let me know! Thanks!

Katy

that sucks katy.. iwould try JBJ and see if they will send you a new one..

chocolateblnt - Stop pimping Tru Vu tank...J/K

Hopefully all the "pimping" will prevent noobs from such an experience that could drive them away from the hobby and entice them to buy a Tru Vu for nearly the same money as the dinky nano's. You could get a Tru Vu 15, 20 Long for around $100; Sure you have to add lighting to a Tru Vu but the lighting in a pre-built nano tank isn't always sufficient for what most people want to keep anyway. I dunno just my opinion after seeing a lot of people retrofit nano's with extra lights then have to deal with heat issue's etcetera ... then they found out they spent as much money as they would for a proper MH :hmm3:

Katy once again sorry for your loss :( Are you going to put up another tank? You should contact JBJ as kamla mentions and ask for your money back to buy a different tank.

the 06 JBJ should have fixed the exploding problem. I've heard of lots of tanks blowing out and the people call JBJ and get a new one set out free... At least JBJ fixed the mistake (or so they say). Oh well, glad the fish made it ok...sorry about the corals. (I vote on you getting a 20gallon long and making your own tank...tons of fun!!)

Hey guys thanks for all of the tips and advice... My husband and I will never turn away from the hobby... we are saltwater crazy. I have heard that JBJ fixed the problem but I am hesitant on another one. We are planning on contacting them anyway to see what they will do...
As far as another tank... LOL.... We purchased a 15 g (24 long) The shop we were at built a custom hood and base for it which really makes the nano look crummy when compared. We upgraded the lights to PC..So we will have roughly 7 watts per gallon... We got a refugium to set up on the back.... It is not as big as the nano but I think we will be happier. I will post pictures when I get a chance.

I also splurged on a cute 2 gallon nano that the shop had set up in their store which will be placed in my classroom.

Once again thanks for all the tips!!

Katy
