Nano help or suggestions

Hey guys, I have down sized from a fully stocked 40 gal with lots of softies. Well it is more like I left the hobby but now am planning on started on a small scale. I plan to start a 10-20 gallon but only have this nano dedicated to ricordeas. Maybe have my clarkii and rose in this tank as well. (friend is holding for me)

I have always had great success with water quality and thought about going skimmerless. I do not plan on going with allot of light. I will be topping off and doing water changes with RODI water. (have RODI unit)

What do you guys recommend for the lighting and the skimmerless option that I have described?

I will achieve water movement by powerheads.

If I were to have some means of filtration, what do you guys think will work best?

I have thought about the aquapod or JBJ nao cubes but I do not want to go this route. I have moved inland and temps are about 10-20 degrees hotter. I do not want to be addinf fans or topping off like crazy. (please correct me if I am wrong)

I have never attempted a nano, so this is whay I ask these questions. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated, thanks

On another note: I just came across the nano tanks offered by C.A.D, anybody have any experience with these systems?

Hey bdogfish,

Fluorescent light is your best option. Soft corals will be fine under PCs or even NOs.

You should seek out better pumps like Eheim, they waste less energy.

A sump with an Eheim return pump will provide volume and maintain efficiency. ]

Your sump could have a fuge light by a flourescent lamp.

A couple of fans will help to move heat away from your reef system, however, the heat must be exchanged at some point. You may need some space cooling (ie air-con).


You could just get an aquarium chiller and have no troubles except for the expense of the chiller.
