Nano Log

I just couldn't manage to stay away from the hobby so I made the decision to setup a small desktop nano in my dorm room.
It should hopefully hold me over until I can finally have a decent sized tank again, and it gives me an excuse to use some
of the fancy shmancy equipment I've been collecting :spin2:

The tank is a 5 gallon glass tank (13.5"x8.5"x10") with rounded corners running the following equipment:

MP10w ES
Reef Keeper Elite with Net
Stealth 200 watt heater
Small HOB filter for carbon and maybe GFO down the road
36w PAR38 20K from coral compulsion (this things pretty awesome!)
ATO float switch run through RKE

I plan to hook up a two-head dosing pump once my demands for calcium and alkalinity pick up.

The tank was setup last Tuesday (1-1-13), and is one week old today. The tank has maybe 10-15 lbs of rock in it, and is
barebottom. I wanted to keep a minimalistic look for this tank and think my aquascape came out pretty nicely. I normally
am not a fan of barebottom, but I plan on keeping mostly SPS and Zoa/Palys and didn't want a sandstorm with the MP10.
So far the barebottom is growing on me. I just finished running the first set of parameter tests. I still need to pickup a
nitrite test, but so far my parameters are as follows:

Ammonia: <0.25 (Salifert)
Nitrate: 15 mg/L (Salifert)
pH: 8.2 (Seachem)
Alkalinity 5 meq/L (Seachem)
Calcium: 450 ppm (Salifert)
Magnesium: 1450 ppm (Salifert)
Phosphate: 0.015 mg/L (Seachem)

My plan is to post weekly photo updates every week, if not more frequently, in order to document the tanks growth. Now
onto the pictures! Unfortunately my iPad doesn't take the best pictures but enjoy!

Overdue Update

Overdue Update

Well I've kind of fallen off track of my goal of a weekly update, but there's some new additions to the tank so its about time for an update.

Latest tank parameters (tested today) are:
salinity = 1.024
calcium = 390 ppm
magnesium = 1260 ppm
alkalinity = 4 meq/L
pH = 8.6
nitrate = 2 ppm

The pH is a little high due to using kalkwasser in my top-off. I am going to stop using kalkwasser. The tank seems to small to handle that my hydroxyl addition as evident in the high pH. My calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium have all dropped slightly within a weeks time due to the new coral additions so this weekend I plan to get my dosing pumps set up on the tank run through the RKE.

My clown pair have been exhibiting some odd behavior lately. They do both appear to be young still so I have come to the conclusion that it is possibly mating/pairing up behavior, but I am no expert and could use some advice. One of the clowns does what I would call "playing dead". At first it would just be swimming around, then swim down to the bottom and just lay there on its side, and it would remain there until the other one would come up to it and lay next to it/prod it. The first time I saw it I thought it was dead, but as soon as I walked up closer to the tank the clown got right up and continued swimming around like normal. I haven't noticed any since of disease or stress. Breathing seems normal and it eats readily (kind of a pig). I have some pictures that show the behavior a little better.
