nano noobie

I am not a noobie to the SW hobby, but I certainly will be in regards to the "nano" setup.

I am interested in starting a nano w/ a 2ga tank... it may or may not have 1 damsel and possibly a few non light needy inverts...
the setup will have mechanical filtration and a small water pump and heater... my question is: is it possible to run this small setup w/ no skimmer... I am used to larger scale setups (200-300ga) and I've always used a skimmer so, you can possibly understand my apprehention towards not having a skimmer/

any insight, experiences, pictures, suggestions, 2 cents would be much appreciated!

Quite a few people get by w/o a skimmer on a nano, myself being one of them. I have one and run it from time to time, however most of the time I don't run it and rely on bi-weekly (weekly if needed) water changes and cleanings. I and my tanks inhabitants have never been happier (one less thing for me to do!).

IMO a 2 gal wouldnt be big enough for a damsel, maybe a perching fich instead. You could definetly replace a skimmer with water changes on that type of system. You could also have a mini refugium and grow some cheato.

my 2 cents

I have a 10g nano running with no skimmer and do 10% weekly water changes, everything is thriving softies and lps alike

Here is the latest shot of my tank

Candy Cane
Torch
Xenia
Button Polyps
Green stripe mushrooms
2 Open brains
Green Star Polyps
2 Tree leathers
Bluefin Damselfish
few assorted hermits and snails

pretty amazinf isnt it, and most people said it wasnt enough light yet everything is growing since ive gotten them and the candy and torch are even splitting :D

nice tank lemmz....are those the coralife 10w screw in pc bulbs? in a regular incandescent cheapo hood? I hear that those bulbs actually put out around 50w each in usable light spectrum....dunno for sure tho

its not unheard of hearing that "good husbandry" beating conventional wisdom's butt

I think you could do it. I run my 12 gallon aquapod without any skimmer and my fish and inverts couldn't be happier. Here are some pics.

Sorry all my pics with the clown in them are blurry. She is hard to get a pic of. My tank has been up for 3 months.

No problem. Thanks for the compliment on my clown. My Clown is a ORA tank bred Black Ocellaris clown. She is a missbarred wich means her stripes do not connect somewhere on her body, in this case the middle.

thanks for the link!

I'm curious to know what you're using to power the bulb?
is it a standard clip on lamp/pendant that I can pick up at a hardware store?
