nano protein skimmer!!!

Lots of people seem to like the aquaticlife mini. I think the tunze mini is known to be a beast. I use the sera mini myself, but as stated you can probably get by on water changes.

See i picked up an old sapphire aqautic skimmer but my refugim is in the middle chamber does the tunze or the aquaticlife fit in the right or left chamber? And thats what i have heard about the nanos i have seen tanks with amazing corals thriving without a skimmer.

Skimmer is the best long term solution for keeping a clean and healthy tank. I'm not familiar with fitmit on BC29 but this question gets asked at least every other day so a quick search or visit to the BC29 Owners Thread should give you plenty of ideas.

Popular models:
* AquaMaxx HOB-1
* Tunze 9002
* Eshopps PSK-75

I use a hydor slim-skim nano. Works better than the Aquatic Life mini I used to run. May be looking to switch to the aquamaxx though.

I have the Hydor Nano Skimmer. I would recommend some other HOB skimmer. The hydor is loosely put together and the surface skimmer doesn't work. You also must have a top off system for it to work efficiently otherwise you'll never get skimmate. It's a shame too because it's the only skimmer that isn't an eye sore to look at.

My Tunze 9002 is is awesome. The skimmer is simple and else to clean. The skimmer needs somewhat of a constant water level. I had to mod mine a little to get it to work in my JBJ 30 rimless glass cube. I have a sump that is built on with 5 compartment. It sits in the larges compartment, but that compartment water lvl is not stable. One thing Im doing to keep it stable. Im adding a top off. I might also look at the Aquaticlife (but someone just memtion that the Hydor is better). The reason Im looking into the other skimmer is just because I want to place it in the smaller constant water lvl. I might just go with the topoff, cause the tunze is awesome.

i think virtually all skimmers need a constant level of water to function properly. if not you'll be constantly adjusting to compensate for any fluctuation of water height. the water pressure changes with water height so the amount of water into the skimmer will change. look at pump ratings and head pressure ratings on any pump and you'll see that less water is pumped out of the hose as the pump has to push higher into the air, same thing for skimmers.

I understand what you're saying. I guess i should have stated that my other HOB skimmer is a CPR aeroforce recirculating type. As long as the intake pump is submerged in water, i always have a large foam head and constant skimmate production. I imagine the difference of less than 1/2" change in water level has little to no effect on the intake pump on the aeroforce, unlike the hydor.

does that tunze fit in the right chamber? And i am so confused on which skimmer to use just want to pick one that works the best but it has to fit in the right chamber middle chamber is a refg

I have a turboflotor blue 500 and have been very pleased with it in my red sea max. From what I can tell this skimmer will also fit in the biocube 29

Dood, you have the 30RL??? You need to start a build thread, I've been very interested in seeing more on these new tanks! :)

Anybody ever use an aquaticslife protein skimmer that was what my local store told me to use since it has to fit in the right side (intake) chamber. I was thinking about doing a hang on the back instant ocean skimme, thoughts? Also does the tunze 9002 fit in the right side chamber. Want to start adding some soft corals, Dont want to make the 250 investment for the extra leds in my tank to grow hard corals yet lol!!!

Thanks so much.

I have the AquaticLife Mini Skimmer 115, it's a great skimmer and it fits perfect in the 1st chamber with only slight modification to the cover to allow for the hanger. I was skeptical about needing a skimmer with the Biocube 29 but after owning one I wouldn't want to be without it. It's a great value.

Could you snap a quick photo of the fitment and modification? I just got one today and cant see how it can fit in that chamber...?

Thanks!!

AquaticLife Skimmer Install instructions

AquaticLife Skimmer Install instructions

The link below is very thorough with photos to lead you right through the install. Don't make it to difficult it fits quite easily. Definitely use the suction cups when installing you might slide them past the tight spot and than slide the skimmer into bracket. Also there is a photo labeled finished install of back; the cutout he made is larger than it should have been. Mine was just large enough to accomidate the bracket and the clip covers entirely. Unit quiets down after a little while but not to noisy to begin with. Others have modified there unit to make quiter or to raise air intake. With this install that is not necessary and the unit quites down after using it a few weeks. I also enlarged the overflow opening to allow more water to flow into 2nd chamber. Good luck!
