Nano Skimmer....?

I thought i found a protein skimmer that would work for my custom nano that im going to be building. However, i found that this was not the case b/c the skimmer I found was basically a POS. Its the Fission Nano Skimmer...So i decided to look around some more

ive been searching around for protein skimmers that would fit in a nano reef. I stumbled upon this: http://www.nano-reef.com/articles/?article=3

according to that page a skimmer should not be used for a nano and 100% nautral should be the way to go w/ LR and LS only and as long as you stay on top of weekly water changes everything should be alright.

So im wondering what everyone thinks about that? and whether or not other members use a skimmer or not for there nano?

Thanks

I'm a huge fan of a skimmer, if for no other reason than if/when (when!) you miss water changes or otherwise slack off, it can be there for a fallback for a week or two.

That said, I don't knowof any retail available skimmers for our all-in-one nano cubes.

I just purchased a Aqua C Remora Nano for my 24G nano cube...I set it on the tank last night, just hanging it right on the front of the tank...gonna leave it there for a few days...

I plan on only using it every once and a while...I figure some skimmate is better than nothing....

that said, I've been fine with no skimmer for over a year....

The fission Nano Skimmer is an infamous piece of ****. Do you need a skimmer for a nano reef? probably not. most nanos are soft corals...many of which benifit from additional nutrients in the water and are more tolerant of trace nitrates. SPS corals will most certainly benefit from a skimmer.

The Fission is definately GARBAGE!!!!!! i threw mine away. Nothing but micro bubbles and water in the collection cup.

Ditto on the fission, very poor layout for a skimmer, too dependant on the water level, and too many damn microbubbles!

i skim on both my 10 and my 20...i have a seaclone on my 20 and it works pretty well....i think that any skimming is better then no skimming especally once your tank get a bit older (+1 year) and you dont see nitrates anymore you no longer do water changes every week...they are nice to have
