Nano sps tank question,

pico-reefer

I asked this question over in the reef chemistry forum, but I think I'll get more answers here.

I have an 18x18x5.5" rimless AIO 5 gal nano that i want to make sps dominant.

It's going to be barebottom, filtration will probably consist of a nano algae turf scrubber, filter sock for mech. filtration, maybe a small protien skimmer, but I think if I have an algae turf scrubber I can skip the skimmer but i'm not sure.

Lighting will be a 150W metal halide, with a pheonix 14k bulb.

Now, the question, do you think 1/2 gal water changes a day will keep the calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium in check? I plan on rigging up a couple of drews dosers for automatic water changes, but I haven't decided yet.

I plan on doing the beginner SPS, birdsnest, monti's ect.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

EDIT- heating will be a 50w ebo jager, controlled by a ranco, and I will have an ATO.

I am just starting with sps in my biocube so I am not a expert yet ;). I would say that the only way to get a real answer is to test your water to see if it is. It all depends on how much your coral consumes. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I would not recommend skipping the protein skimmer although many seem to have success without one in a nano.
