Nano Tank Turnover Rate

What turnover rate is good for a nano...I have seen people lately that are using anywhere from a 50 to 100 time turnover rate in their nanos...I am just wondering what is too much flow...

I have a 10g tank and the flow is very low at this point...but I'm still just cycling the tank...I want to know what I should put in there to help speed the cycle along and to make the tank healthy in the long run...

Any help is appreciated... :)

I was thinking of adding a sump for a larger fuge...I was thinking of a small size return pump on an SCWD...I know, people don't like them but if I put in 2 80gph aquaclear powerheads and branch each part off the SCWD in to 2 other returns I should get good coverage with decent alternating flow...

I was thinking of an Eheim Compact 1000 (317gph) at about 3-4 feet of head loss plus through the SCWD would give me about 190gph of flow in to the tank...that with the 2 powerheads would give me 370gph or 37x turnover...I think this would be good...

Any thoughts? I could always go with a slightly smaller return pump...

It depends on what type of corals you want to put in there. I have about 70x turnover in my 24 but thats because its all sps. If you weren't going to have any sps than you wouldn't need nearly that much flow. 37x turnover would be just fine for most corals.

I am not planning on any acro or anything, so LPS and softies is my goal...good to hear I'm on target with my flow rate...

Any other opinions...I like all the info I can get... ;)

I think you should stick with the bigger return pump and not go smaller because you can add a T to the pump outlet and then attach a ball valve which will allow you to control the amount of return you want to go to the SCWD. If you find that your flow is too much, just open up the ball valve a bit which will return part of the water back to the sump.

Good idea Paladin...I hadn't thought about that...good point though about the flow...I will have to work that in to my ideas...
