Nano Tank

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what your guys' thoughts were on Nano cubes. I remember when I worked at the lfs that we were constantly replacing hoods, but I believe that the replacements were for the regular nanos, not the deluxes. Drsfostersmith.com are having an awesome sale that I could get a 12G with stand shipped to me for under $200. i like the clean set up, but I don't want a POS. I have also considered putting a tank together myself, but i would prefer the clean set up.

And since you guys know the lfs in the area..what stores should I be looking for? I didnt' have much success at exotic pets so far.:(

There is a list of stores at the top of this forum... The best two by far are The Aquarium and The Coral Reef... Both are within a mile or two of each other in Knoxville near Papermill...

I'm not the biggest fan of Nanos... But some in the club are... They have come a long way since they first came out, but those that work well and are more efficient are more expensive as well...

A lot depends on what all you are wanting for your stock list... Stock lighting and SPS/Clams won't mix for a 12g nanocube... I'm not sure I'd keep anything except softies/polyps/hardy LPS... Just an FYI more than anything else... :D

The Aquarium has nice presentation of its fish and stuff but the hardware (tanks, pumps etc) are a bit on the pricey side. If you get anything from the at least become a VIP member and it'll help you save lots of money in the end.

Since you're looking at nanos, they do carry the BioCubes. I have 2 8g BCs, my brother has a 29g and 8g BC, my student and his father both have 29g BCs, and my mother even has an 8g BC and we all love them.

There are a lot of aftermarket mods you can get for them OR you can mod them yourself. I have moded my 8g at home and I have not had any problems with algae outbreaks, high nitrates or any corals dying off *knocks on wood* and I think its because of the $20 in modifications I have done.

I also picked up a 24g Nano Cube which seems to be alright but already I can tell the BioCubes are made better! Feel free to ask me anything about them or if you want to come on by and check out my nanos. I have 2 nanos at home and a 40g breeder and I have the nano mantis tank at school.

Nanos are fun and if you take your time and do it right they are very rewarding!
