Naso with spots and cloudy eye...

My g/f picked me up a baby Naso tang (2.5") from the LFS a little over a week ago. He's been in my QT tank ever since. He always has these little white spots all over him, but it does not look like ich...it looks more like his coloration. They are not raised at all. The spots are more abundant after the lights have been out for a while, and then some go away when I turn the lights on.

One thing I noticed today that is worrying me is that one of his eyes looks sorta cloudy, and I noticed that he seems to try and "scratch" it with his fin. I saw him move his fin really fast and kinda lean over.

What do I need to do?

edit: Before the tang police arrive...I don't have the 65 gallon in my sig anymore. :)

Are these circular spots, about a quarter of an inch in diameter? Naso tangs show up with light spots on their body when they get stressed out or when resting, and it's pretty easy to notice. I'm guessing that's what you're seeing.

Cloudy eyes are normally a sign of poor water quality or physical damage. I'd check the water parameters in your quarantine tank, especially ammonia and nitrate. If there doesn't seem to be a problem then maybe something happened while the fish was being caught at the store, or it swam into something and injured the eye. Super clean water is the most helpful thing to give the tang. If it's an infection, maybe an antibacterial. I'm not great with recommending specific meds so I'll leave that to someone else if it's necessary.

yeah those spots are like that usually caused by stress or when resting... so that isnt something to worry about.

as for the cloudy eye keep the water as clean as possible and it should clear up in a few days. as long as both eyes aren't showing the same signs then it should be fine.

Well, I did about a 35-40% water change today. I've been running carbon and changed it just 2 days ago. Poor thing looks even worse tonight than last night. He's just kinda sitting on the bottom not moving much, and it looks like junk from the bottom (QT is barebottom, some stuff settles in spots) is sticking to him.

I think a big problem is he doesn't seem to be eating. The only thing I can confirm him eating was a little flake food. I have tried everything from my frozen blend of squid/shrimp/cyclopeeze/selcon/garlic, to zooplankton, brown algae sheets, green algae sheets. He doesn't seem to touch anything except a few nips at the flake food. :(

I always thought Naso's were big eaters.

is there anything in QT for the guy to hide? you can try mixing in some garlic juice to entice it. try some nori as well

hows water movement in the tank?

IMO, unless you KNOW that your tang is sick i would never put it in a qt because stuffing a tang in a smal sparsely decorate tank may cause stress and therefore bring on the disease you are trying to avoid.
