Need a littile plumbing help.

So I am about to start plumbing my reef ready dual overflow 155 bowfront tank. Each overflow box has 2 pre drilled holes for different size bulkheads. One hole is larger than the other. My question is: Do I use the larger diameter hole for the return line and the smaller one for the drain or vise versa? I am going to use a Durso for the drains.

Thanks in advance.

If it were me I'd use both holes for drains and bring my returns up and over. That way you have some protection in the event of a clogged pipe. You can also make it less noisy this way.

In all my tanks I do the larger diameters as the drain and the smaller as the return... But its all personal preference. Good luck!

It really matters on how big the "big" hole is and the return rate of the pump you are intending to use. The smaller hole is typically 3/4" to 1". Almost any size pump I can imagine that would support a 155 should not require a hole bigger than that. However, a drain that is 1 1/2" (or smaller) and an Iwaki md70rlt is a bad idea! I learned this the hard way once :headwally: You can never really go too big on the drain as long as the tank structurally supports it.
