I have a 90 gallon that i have had set up for 2 and a half years. I had like 12 sps some zoas bubble coral war coral and green star poylps. I upgraded my light from a TEK 8 bulb 454 watts total with eggcrate for a cover to a ELOS planet ll with no top. Not there long after i lost one of sps due to rtn. Then my orange monti cap started to look funny in a certain area. Then i had a couple more sps with stn they died then a couple more. I had the light 4 inches off the tank and started it at 4 hours is it possible that i cooked them? I set the light up about a month ago and still losing corals as we speak everyday it seems that a new sps is going downhill. I also had my alk at 13 which i know was high but i got that in check now. i can't figure out what the problem is it is really annoying having your corals dieing for a month and not knowing whats going on. Yesterday i started to lose my war coral. So before it was SPS not lps. Green star polyps are fine zoos are fine ricorda's and bubble are fine. Anyone have any possible clue. s.g 1.024 temp 78 cal 400 alk 8 mag 1400 nitrate nitrite ammonia all 0 ph 8.1

I would put the old fixture back on ASAP, if you still have it. And see if it solves the problem. Then go from there. Sorry for your misfortune.

i have no idea what an elos planet ii is, or how different it is than the old tek, but to me it also sounds like a lighting acclimation issue.

the tek is a t5 set up right? what is the elos, LED? and is the new light more powerful than the old?

when adding a a new or more pwerfull light over a system that has already been acustomed to a particular lighting arrangement, its best to do it in moderation. rather than just adding the new light and putting it on a full duty 12 hour photo period, you should start off with only a couple of hours a day and gradually move up to longer and longer photo periods. or you can keep the same photo period and add layres of window screen material to shade the tank, removing single layres each day untill none remain.

reducing lighting to the tank will have less of a negative affect of the corals than too much of a strong light.

at the rate that your losing corals it sounds like it might be too late to do anything?

on the other hand it feels like if its already been a month with the new light then the corals should be used to it by now.

perhaps it was a single coral that wasnt able to handle the new lighting and when it died, it kicked off a dominoe affect of die off?

sorry i couldnt be of more help...

yes the tek light is a 8 bulb t-5 and the elos planet ll is 2x150 Mh with 4 39 watt blue t-5. That is what i was wondering if it was still the light would it still be effecting the corals like it is? What im going to do tomorrow is put a little frag of some sort of cheap SPS in there new and see if it dies if not then its the light if it does then i guess i have some kind of water chemistry problem but i really wouldn't know what.

Man I can't imagine how you must feel. I lost an ORA blue tort recently and it seriously bummed me out... And that's just one sps!
