Well I have been waiting for a Heniochus Diphreutes for over a year now. I finally got one from Live Aquaria. It arrives tomorrow. My QT tank (20 Gallon) has been dormant for about 4 months. It has had water in it but everything has been turned off to it. After placing my order, I scrubbed the QT with water in it, then I scrubbed my DT. (Currently battling algae bloom from over feeding during vacation). I sucked up as much loose algae from my DT and used that water as water for the QT. I replaced 75% of the water in the QT. I fired up the hob filter, heater, and power head in the QT.
I am assuming that I basically have no bacteria population being that the tank was dormant for 4 months with no feeding or nutrient input. I have some algae floating around in the QT and some in the filler floss. Should I do more water changes on the QT with new salt water or should I leave the QT alone? Should I remove the algae in the filter or leave it hoping it has some bacteria on it?
I want to make sure I have success with the Heniochus in the QT tank. My last QT attempt was with a Copperbanded Butterfly and he refused to eat in the QT so as a last ditch effort I placed him in the DT and once he was around other fish eating, he ate like a champ!
I have AmQuel and 55 gallons of fresh RODI water on hand for water changes and ammonia defense. Is there anything else I should do or have on hand?
