Need Advice: Wound on Lionfish.

After losing my lionfish on tuesday to a suicidal jump, I decided to go down to the lfs and pick up a new one. I watched him for almost an hour an a half before I bought him to make sure that everything was in order. After I brought him home, I noticed 2 wounds on his right side. I didnt notice them at the store because his fins were covering them up. At first they looked like swollen scales but now they are starting to look like an actual tear in the skin. I was wondering what (if anything) I can do about this. Here is the best pic out of 10 that I took. I know this one isnt even that good, but my camera sucks.

If the fish is in QT ... then add some antibiotics ... should assist in the healing of an open wound. A double dose of maracyn 2 should help.

If the fish is in the ST ... then adding antibiotics may harm the tank. Often small wounds will clear up on own and I would keep the fish under observation and wait to see if there is any progress. If you see the situation get worse or if you don't see any progress within a week or so I would Qt the fish and use an antibiotics.

Hope this helps.

I came home today and looked at it again. It looks different now. It is definately not just some swollen scales, this fish got sliced by something. The two spots are clean cut gashes, one being bigger than the other. It almost looks like he was cut with a knife or something.

I will keep an eye out on it. I started prepping a 10g for QT. Its all I have.

Surprisingly I had the same issue with my lionfish when I brought him home. His scrapes were farther back, but they were definitely scrapes. They healed up perfectly and he is healthier than ever. I didn't really have to do anything special because every day I saw him the cuts looked slightly better until I couldn't see them any longer. Hopefully your's will be as minor and simple to treat. Good luck.
