Need advise on tank stand

I have a welded stand for a 130g tank. When it was welded it torqued some and I will have to level the legs with shims. That's not a problem. The problem is, when the tank is put on the stand it does not sit flat at all! I know you can use foam on certain types of tanks like the ones Glass Cages sells, but will that work with a AGA or Oceanic tank?

Would i put the foam down first, then plywood, then the tank?

I do ask that I don't get "oppinions". Not that they are not valuable, but I ask advise from those that have experience in the subject.

Thanks to all!!!!!

Plywood, foam, tank. Not to offer an opinion, but how off is it, and is the tank a 4' or 6' 130? Foam can correct minor issues, 1/16", 1/8" much more than that I would be concerned that the uneven tank could get a stress crack.

Thanks...

The tank is actually a custom 40" width x 24" depth. I am not sure at the moment how far off it is, but might be 3/16" off.

Again thanks

I'd use the the pink foam, it's denser than the white, and get it 1" thick and you should be fine.

Have you tested the tank/stand together with water? I bet that the water will take the twist out of the metal and eliminate the need for shims. Try it and see. I had a similar situation with a wood stand and it was all true and level with water in it.

Dont use any faom with a Oceanic or it will fail. The weight bearing edge of the tank must be on a flat surface or the strain on the silicone will cause trouble.

It is an Oceanic glass tank. The stand is made from 3" x 3" x 1/4" thick structural tubing. Not sure that the "twist" will come out from the weight of the water. I can try though.

If i use plywood and then the foam on the edge of the tank only, would this work?

Thanks

You can call Oceanic but any area of the bottom ring of the tank that is not supported will cause stress to be transferred to the areas that are. This strain over the years can cause the tank to fail.

If you put that much water on the stand I would be surprised if it didn't finally go flat.

Dont use foam on glass tanks with plastic trim , they are designed to be held by the outside, look an an aga stand there are olny supports on the edge. Foam is for acrlyic tanks that need the weight distibuted over the entire bottom.

I understand that the tank needs to be supported on the outside only. If I put the foam on the edge of the stand only then put the tank on this. (It would act as a putty) would this work?

Or if I put the foam on the edge then put plywood on this then the tank?

More thoughts?

Thanks
