I'm starting up a 3g pico and would really love to have some colored sticks. My question is this: which variety (or varieties) would behave well under an 18w PC fixture? I've had Pocillopora, or a variant there-of, under VHO and it did pretty well (green/yellow placed about 12 inches from the bulbs). Also had an Acro (green/yellow) under VHO (same distance) as well as plating monti (red and bluish-purple).

Will the more vibrant colors of sps stay solid under the PC light or am I barking up the wrong tree here and will they just fade to lesser colors? I'm hoping for maybe some pink and blue or purple if possible, in addition to the green/yellow and some "red".

Thanks in advance folks!

pink birdsnest would give you the pink and it is quite hardy.
blue.. geez that is tough. I would suggest a hardy encrusting montipora.
purple? hm.. i am not sure. probably a montipora again.

I guess as long as you stick to corals that are readily fragged a lot you do not have to
feel bad for attempting it and they die. Things like pink birdsnest is given away as it is
a weed in most tanks. Ditto with common encrusting montiporas. Basically 10 dollar frag
stuff.

As for acropora.. i guess it is just a matter of finding a LFS that has some cheapo frags and
giving things a try. I would definitely not put 40 dollar ORA frags under there only for them to
die.

Ok, Thanks. So for the most part if I had success with it before then I should be good. Thanks for the ideas! Yeah, I'm not gonna spend $40+ just to test a theory. I've had a lavender plating monti before so that's probably my "purple"...though I've seen an Acro somewhere that was a nice purple color but it was under a nice halide setup.
