need camera recommendation for underwater photography

As the title says..can anyone recommend me a good camera for underwater photography?

I'm going to be doing coral reef research next year and I'd like to be able to take some good pictures of the reefs. I need something that has good resolution and something that can adjust to the change in the light spectrum under water.

I guess it depends on your budget, but if I was buying a cam for underwater photography, I'd try to get a used SLR so that I had the flexibility of different lenses but wasn't investing a ton of money into it in case you spring a leak somehow. You also want to make sure that there are good housings available, because the housing alone is a significant expense. If you want to read housing reviews, check out wetpixel.com
