I have a 29 gallon seahorse tank, and THe temperature is extreamly high up to about 80 degrees. I need it to be arround 69-72 degrees for my seahorses, or I fear they will soon die of a very bad vibrio infection.... I have been putting frozen water bottles into it, and added a fan between the water and the light, but it has not helped all that much.

I need a chiller, but dont wat to pay 400 bucks.... I am a poor highschool student who lives off allowence, lunch money and moms generosity lol. I have looked but can't find ANYTHING in my price range that will do what i need to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Shake down the freshmen and steal there lunch money. :D

YOu might want to try a clip on style fan. The one I use was $10, I clip it to the sump and let it blow directly at the surface of the water. Can greatly drop the tank temp below room temp. I'm pretty happy with it thus far.

You will need to have more RODI water on hand for top offs because the amount of evaporation will incrase with a fan.

What knot, go anwser the questions from your fighting vibrio thread ;)

i hate using clip on fans. to much evap in one day which means a big fluctuation and i could never keep the temp. stable.. go with a 1/10 HP chiller... I got a 1/10 HP Coralife Aquachill for $368 (or something like that) off Big Als website www.bigalsonline.com and thats with shipping cost.. i got it for my soon to be 30g. Cube h. Barbouri tank

HA HA i am a freshman

Try a clip on fan with a temp controller. I was surprised how much the little fan actually brought the temp down. With the controller you can reduce the amount of swing and not have to monitor it as closely.
If it turns out that the fan doesnt reduce the tyemp enough you will not have to buy a controller for your chiller. With money being tight the fan and controller would be cheaper then a chiller.
