rich mud from esturary will keep it happy...or maybe you can mix DTs/small organic material in a sand pile and let the crab eat on the surface, it will be neat. And they shouldn't be submerged like in the photo.

Yeah that guy needs to be able to crawl out onto dry land. They dig for microorganisms in the sand at low tide, a tank could be designed to meet its needs.

well i guess i have a new project tank this weekend. Ill let you guys know what i come up with. Thanks for the help.

damndest thing, crab came out and was eating some reef food that was chillin on the sang bed. This a good sign, or still doesnt change anything?

No one has really kept these animals long term, to ensure survivial you should emulate their natural environment as close as possible. So yes its interesting that its eatting "reef food", (what is reef food by the way? ) it still doesn't really change anything regards to what you should be doing to care for the animal.

A tidal tank with a beach would be an awesome tank. I've only seen it done at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa(large scale).
Nice looking crab, I would've guessed an imature ghost crab myself.
Cheers

You could just do a half mud half water, maybe seperate it with plexy glass, and put a small power head on a timer to emulate a tidal cycle. Keep it with a mudskipper!
