Need Fungia Help w/ pics

I just got a coral from an lfs that had it on hold for me. Three days ago the coral looked fine in one of their display tanks, when I picked it up today it looked horrinle. Any chance of survival? What can I do to help it.

It doesn't look too good to me, but whatever happens, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!! My fungia died off completely, but then a little while later, little babies started sprouting! I now have a dozen or so coin sized fungias growing off the skeleton of the old one.

Wait, be patient and make sure your parameters are OK.

I have one that I moved a couple of inches in my tank and it closed up like that for a whole week before I started to see tissue again. It's been several months since that incident and it is doing fine.

Do you target feed any of your corals? Give it a squirt here and there to encourage it to open up again.

My green fungia nearly completely died off and has taken a complete turnaround, looking better every day.

Check it a couple of hours after lights out Gene. They tend to open up more at night. If you see more tissue and tenacles then, it would be a good time to feed.

I have one that appears to be sprouting babies - I just purchased it from the LFS as well - similar to GeneSilvey.

Do you have to feed the babies? If so, when and what? Cyclopeze, rotifers, baby brine, mysis?

Mine too has come ill recently, the edges around its mouth are completely white, any tips on saving it, iodine dip?

Wow... it's the same story of what happened with my plate... it's losing tissue mass and it's skeleton is exposed. Now two months later it's almost totally white.

When you said it died off completely, was it totally white? Where did you leave it in the tank? Did you do anything with algae that started growing on it? I'm hopeful that babies will sprout from mine. Therefore, any input is appreciated.

Dont throw out the fungia no matter how bad it looks.... these guys can come back even when flesh seems gone. I have brought some back from the dead... at that point the LFS will give you them. Try moving to a low light area. If any polyp extension at night target feed.

I believe you.. but at what point do you give it a TOD (Time of Death)? You mention if there is polyp extension to target feed - my plate doesn't have polyps/tentackles anymore. Just trying to gage how far along mine is before I give up on it and put the skeleton in the fuge.

I just left the skeleton (it was looking COMPLETELY dead) on the sandbed. Probably took a few weeks to get to the point where you could really see that there were babies forming. Algae is a bit of a problem. I think that has impeded the number of them that have developed. I've tried to gently clean the skeletal spots from time to time.

Oh, my lighting is only 192watts of PC tubes.

I still have a little bit of the orange left between the skeleton's ridges and some near the mouth. Your comments give me some renewed hope - though it may be slim. w.r.t. the algae, yeah, every few days I get the turkey baster to wisk away whatever will blow off. It improves the appearance a little anyway. Thanks.

b.t.w. I don't mean to hijak the thread but I thought it is relevant to the topic. Good luck with your plate!

The fungia is healing well. I will post pics as soon as my lights come on.

Great to hear positive news about your plate. Also interested in hearing what you've done (if anything) to get it to come around. Thanks!

Your play is looking great!

I see you also put it on LR?

Doing anything to keep it from getting flipped over? I tried to locate mine on LR but if it wasn't one fish, it was another in flipping it off within a few minutes. Very wierd.
