Need Help Finding a Cheap DSLR Camera

I've had it with my FujiFilm S5100. I'm looking to sell/trade it and use it to purchase a DSLR. Now, I'm not picky, but the choices are crazy. I was thinking a refurbished model to reduce the price. I would say anything in the 4 megapixel or more range. I'm not sure if there really is a difference in Canon or Nikon, so it doesn't matter to me. Any suggestions?

Fuji makes some very nice dslr's too- they use Nikon lenses. I use a Fuji S2 now and then and really like it. It's extremely slow next to my Canon but the picture quality is excellent.

Just about the only thing I'll be shooting is aquarium and family related pictures. I'm a sucker for good macro shots, so the ability to get in rather close without extra lenses is nice. How much did your camera cost you, Greg?

I've got the 1DMII and I think it was about $3600. There's a 1DMIII out now that I would dearly love to have though. Hard to justify the expense considering how great the MII is.

You can pick up a new Nikon D40 DSLR in the low $500 range with a standard zoom lens. I'm not sure if you can find a refurbished one and save more money, but it's always possible. I have the D50 and bought it refurbished over a year ago for about a 25% savings at the time. You may be able to find a D40 without a lens, and then look for a decent macro lens instead of the standard zoom lens. I have the 18-55 standard low end zoom that the D50 came with, and while it can get fairly close, it's definately not a macro. I'll have my D50 at the OMAS meeting tomorrow night if you want to check it out.

Travis, I bought my canon xt (350) on sale over memorial weekend, has an 18-55 lens & 70 - 300 with a 2 gb card for 650$
heckuva sale, was so hard to say no that I didn't

Sorry, Lee. Wasn't able to make it to the OMAS meeting. I had already made too many big-city trips that week, and to add on another 180 mile round trip was just going to be too hard on the pocket book. Maybe I'll catch up with you at a later time.

BSB, great find indeed. Too bad it's not Memorial Weekend year round :D
