I have a Kent Hi-s RO/DI unit that I acquired through some trading. I can't figure out exactly how to hook it up though. There is a yellow line coming into the first canister on the left, a blue line coming out/in of the third canister and an orange line on the ro membrane. I know one line should be in one good water out and one waste water I just don't Know which is which and I can't find anything on google any help would be appreciated.

howdy! i just replaced my cartridges yesterday so i got to play with my rodi. i believe the yellow is for the hose coming (obviously), the orange should be waste and blue should be the good stuff if i'm not mistaken. one way to make sure is that once you have it running, the hose that dribbles out is the good water. you will have more waste water than rodi water...

hope i haven't told you wrong! i'm sure somebody else will chime in....

That's how mine works. Yellow line is coming in from the faucet, orange is waste water and blue is good water.

Be environmentally friendly and save the waste water and use it for plant water, etc. I run my orange line directly into my hot tub and allow it to flow into there.

Change those cartridges. I bet the carbon is nearly depleted based on the picture which will tremendously shorten the life of the RO membrane.

If it's been used and has been sitting dry for a while, chances are the membrane is no good. Be sure to moniter TDS before using it.

In case it's not obvious at first, the first canister is a sediment filter, which protects the carbon filter from clogging.

The carbon filter is next, and removes things like chloramines, to protect the membrane.

After the membrane is a mixed bed DI cartridge.

Kent Marine has support here, maybe you can get a pdf manual:

I don't have one of these yet, so if I'm saying something stupid, I'm just trying to learn:

Why would you have wastewater? It seems that you would put ALL the water through the filters and the only waste would be sedimentary and particulates that accumulate in the canisters.

Ok thanks thatis what I thought, but was not sure. I have one more question, I am putting an auto top off on the barrel my useable water is going into, when it stop water from being added will this automatically stop water from being added to my waste water barrel or do I need to auto top off set ups?

Olivia,
I had already thought about the waste water use and planned on using it for my flowers, but thanks for the tip :)

Engloid,
For 1 gallon of good water you will get about 4 gallons of waste water. My understanding (I may be wrong) is that the waster water holds all the stuff you just filtered out of the good water. It uses the water to flush these particles out of the filter or otherwise it would "gunk" up very quickly. The water that flushes the particles out is the waste water. It is not much different than tap water and I have heard of people drinking it, but I wouldn't recommend it (I don't drink tap water in the first place). Most people water the lawns or flowers with it.

we only have an auto top off on the sump so that our tank water level stays the same, not one from the rodi to the drum the rodi water goes into. will your auto top off shut off the water source? then you wouldn't need two.
