Need help: Poor college student buying first camera

Really I need a camera for travel, so I would like somthing easy to carry around. But I really want to be able to take pictures of my tank... all these macro pictues got me hooked. I am a poor college student so I got to keep the price down.. under $300 for now. What do you pros recommend for an intrested beginer? Dont laugh to hard but would a canon sd630 do anything cool. I want to be able to show some creativity.

I bought the fiance a Kodak Z740 last year at this time and I have recently added some macro lens and WOW i am super impressed and happy with the quality. The camera should be under $300 now and you can pick the macro lens up off e-bay if need be for $25

I will have to do some research on that camera thanks! Yeah you just reminded me why my budget is so small... the lady friend. Does anyone else have any advice?
